Prairie Flower

Fabric Requirements:

Fabric A: Gold
5 - 4 1/2" squares
8 - 2 1/2" squares - Mark
a diagonal line on back.

Fabric B: Blue
4 - 4 1/2" squares
8 - 2 1/2" squares - Mark
a diagonal line on back.


Make Outer Corner Units:
Place 2 1/2" Fabric B square in a corner
of 4 1/2" Fabric A square with right sides
together.  Sew a thread width away from line
on the outside of the line.  Press seam to the
Fabric A and trim seam to 1/4".  Repeat
procedure in the opposite corner.  Square
to 4 1/2".  Make 4.


Make Outer Center Units:

Place a Fabric A 2 1/2" square in the
corner of a Fabric B 4 1/2" square with
right sides together.  Sew a thread width
away from drawn line on the outer side
of drawn line, press seam to the corner.
Trim seam to 1/4". 


Repeat procedure on the corner next
to the first as shown.  Square to 4 1/2".
Make 4.


Layout units as shown and sew
together in 3 rows.  Press seams
in rows 1 & 3 to the outside and
seams in row 2 to the inside.


Sew rows together and press final
seams open to reduce bulk.
Square to 12 1/2".


I went on a Holiday Home Tour
over the weekend and saw this
antique Prairie Flower quilt on the
bed.  The blocks are set on point and
I especially like the additional star
pattern created when set with
alternating plain blocks.
