is going on in my life.  All the best!  ~ Ellen

This is the August Block of the Month for
the Redbud Quilt Guild in Anderson, IN.

There were no instructions given for this
block, we were to get the pattern from a
book. I do not own the book and we can't
copy from the book so this is the way I made
my block. The block is based on the Squares
and Triangles Block from the KC Star.

Fabric Requirements:

Fabric A: White:
4 - 3 1/2" squares
2 - 4 1/4" squares - Mark
a diagonal line on back.
Fabric B: Red:
2 - 4 1/4" squares

Fabric C: Blue
4 - 3 7/8" squares - Mark
a diagonal line on back.
4 - 3 1/2" squares - Mark
a diagonal line on back.
Fabric D: Fussy Cut
1 - 6 1/2" square

Make Half Square Triangles

Pair Fabric A and Fabric B 4 1/4"
squares with right sides together.
Sew 1/4" away from each side of
drawn line. Cut on drawn line and
press seam to the darker fabric.

Place Fabric C 3 7/8" square on top
of the half square triangles, with right
sides together as shown, be sure the drawn
line on the Fabric C square is placed as
shown. Sew 1/4" away from each side
of drawn line. Cut on drawn line and press
seam to the Fabric C.

To square, place diagonal line
on ruler on top of the diagonal seam on
square, place the 1 3/4" intersection on
the ruler on the center of the block and
square on top and right side. Rotate
block and square the other 2 sides so
the block measures 3 1/2".

You will end up with 4 blocks shown
on the left and 4 shown on the right.
Layout as shown and sew together.
Press seam open to reduce bulk.
Square to 3 1/2" x 6 1/2". Make 4.

Make Center Block:
Place a Fabric C 3 1/2" square on the
top right corner of Fabric D 6 1/2"
square as shown and sew a thread
width above the drawn line. Press
the seam to the corner. Trim back 2
layers of fabric to 1/4". Repeat to the
opposite corner.

Repeat above procedure to the remaining
2 corners and square to 6 1/2".

Assemble Block:

Layout units as shown as sew together
in 3 rows. Press seams in rows 1 & 3
to the outside and seams in row 2 to
the inside.

Sew rows together and press final
seams open to reduce bulk.
Square to 12 1/2".
